  1. What are the different types of accounts? -

    Side 7 has four different account types: Visitor, 1 Star, 3 Star, and 5 Star.
    Each successive account type provides an increase in functionality and features. You can find a direct comparison in the table below.

  2. How can I upgrade my account to a 3 Star account? -
    The 3 Star account is available through the use of Account Credits. When you have acquired enough Account Credits, you can log into your account, and upgrade to this level very easily using your Account Management screen.

    You can upgrade for different lengths of time, similar to a subscription. This method requires no money, but it can take some time to accomplish as Account Credits are acquired through community participation on the site.

    When the duration of a 3 Star Account reaches its expiration date, it reverts back to a 1 Star Account. No information or images are lost, but access to the extra features is suspended until the account upgrade is continued. If an account has uploaded more than the maximum number of images for a 1 Star Account when the 3 Star Account upgrade expires, no more images may be uploaded until images are deleted, or the 3 Star Account upgrade is continued.
  3. How can I upgrade my account to a 5 Star account? -
    A 5 Star Account is the only account on Side 7 that requires a monetary fee. When you are ready to upgrade, you can log into your account, and upgrade to this level very easily using your Account Management screen.

    This account type provides the most support for the site, and as a result, gains the most features. This account's benefits include, but are not limited to, one free Featured Artist showing for each month of the upgrade's duration, discounts on additional Featured Artist prices, discounts in the Side 7 store, access to exclusive site features, and registration discounts to the Side 7 Con (once it starts).

    This upgrade's benefits will be increased as the site is expanded.

    5 Star Account upgrades cost $5 per month in 2-, 6-, and 12-month increments. However, discounts are given for the two larger subscription lengths, with the discount being greatest at the 12-month level.

    When the duration of a 5 Star Account reaches its expiration date, it reverts back to a 1 Star Account.   4. Do I have to pay for my account? -
    Not in all cases. The Visitor Account and the 1 Star Account are free and have no requirements.

    The 3 Star Account requires Account Credits to obtain. The 5 Star Account has a monetary fee associated with it.
  5. Will my account expire or be removed? -
    Accounts on Side 7 do not expire, and are not removed, unless one of the following events happen:

    1. A new account has no activity or uploaded images within the first couple of weeks of existence.
    2. A member requests the termination of their account.

    Side 7 understands that things happen that can cause great lengths of inactivity. We do not consider this inactivity as grounds for removing an account. Members that request their accounts be removed will have all files removed from our system. However, accounts that are removed for cause will have all files maintained for comparisonís sake with future applicants. These files will neither be distributed, nor be available to the public.
  6. My account status says itís "Pending Approval". What does that mean? -
    The status of "Pending Approval" means one of two things:

    1. You have not, yet, followed the link in the account activation e-mail you received.
    2. There was an issue with your account that the administrative staff needs to look into before your account activation e-mail can be sent.

    If you think you haven't received an account activation e-mail, double-check your e-mail account's SPAM or Junk Mail folders. Often times, e-mail providers such as Hotmail.com or Gmail.com treat automated e-mails as Junk Mail even though they're legitimate.

    If there still is no e-mail, there might have been an issue that the admins need to look into, first. If this is the case, you'll hear from the administrative staff very soon. Otherwise, feel free to contact the administration staff at admin@side7.com.
  7. When will my account be activated? -
    All accounts are activated and fully accessible as soon as you follow the confirmation link in the account activation e-mail. That e-mail is sent out immediately after you submit your account information to the site, barring any problems.

    Accounts are generally submitted to the system without problem, but all account applications are passed through a number of security checks to ensure a lack of problems occur (such as duplicate account submissions, bot attacks, etc.). If, for some reason, your account submission is flagged by the security system, the administrative staff are notified of the problem so they can manually check the account and send the account approval e-mail. False alarms in this regard are very rare.
  8. What is Side 7's policy on administrative staff changing information in my account? -
    The administrative staff of Side 7 will not, under any circumstances, make changes to anyoneís account without notifying the member of the change and the reasons the change happened.

    Generally speaking, no administrative staff member will make changes to a memberís account unless the member has not complied with a request to make a change, or the issue so severely breaks the site rules that an immediate change is necessary. In any case, notification will always be sent to the member at the e-mail address on record in the member's account.

    If you have noticed changes to your account, and you have not received any notification from an administrator, please contact the administrative staff immediately at admin@side7.com.
  9. Can anyone get into my account besides me? -
    The answer to this question should be ďnoĒ. Typically speaking, the only persons able to access your account should be you, and the administrative staff. Not even the Side 7 moderators have the capability to access a memberís account.

    However, never, ever hand out your password to anyone. By giving someone your password, you have given them complete control over your account. They can do anything to and with your account at that point, and the person responsible for any problems or issues created is you.
  10. I forgot my password. -
    For increased security, Side 7 no longer supports password retrieval. That feature had the potential of revealing your password to someone else unintentionally.

    If you have forgotten your password, please use our password resetting system. You will need to enter the e-mail address and username that you have registered with Side 7, as the reset confirmation will be sent to that e-mail address.

    That e-mail will contain a link to a confirmation page, which will change your password to a system-generated string of characters. Instead of attempting to remember this string, it is suggested that you log into your account after the password reset, and change your password to something easier to remember.

    Please note: Passwords work best when they are at least 8 characters long, and are a mix of letters, numbers and case.
  11. Why does the sex question in my profile include "Male", "Female", "Neither", "Other", and "Unspecified"? -
    We at Side 7 recognize that different people identify themselves sexually in many different ways. Because there are so many physical possibilities, as well as so many preferential possibilities of identification amongst different people, we chose to use less-specific terminology in order to include as many people as possible.

    Our choice of terminology is not intended to be offensive or belittling to anyone's individual sexual identification of choice. We simply felt that if we attempted to list all possible known choices, our web form would become unmanageable and potentially more offensive for leaving someone's particular terminology off the list.
  12. Can I link to my gallery from my own web site? -
    Yes. The easiest URL to use for your gallery is: http://www.side7.com/<username>/gallery

    Alternatively, http://www.side7.com/gallery/<username> also works.

  13. Can I link directly to an image? -
    This is somewhat of a complicated subject.

    You may link directly to an image page in your gallery. However, you may not directly hotlink that image to have it display on a web page outside of Side 7.

    A hotlink is using HTML code on one website to directly display images hosted on another website. This amounts to bandwidth theft which costs the hosting site money.

  14. Do biography or character biography images count against my daily upload limit? -
    No. These images are completely independent of the upload limit, since they do not add images to your gallery.
  15. What are the icons next to members' names? -
    The icons represent different aspects of a personís account. Some of them refer to account information, some refer to image information.

    The money represents a member who has contributed funds or equipment via donations to the site.
    The heart represents a member who has earned additional recognition from the Admins by volunteering time, services, or who generally works to better the site on a consistent basis.
    The single star represents a member who has a 1 Star Account
    The 3 stars icon represents a member who has a 3 Star Account, and has access to a majority of the site's features.
    The 5 stars icon represents a member who has a 5 Star Account, and has access to every feature of the site.


    Similarly, images on the site might have icons that represent aspects of the image:

    The credit cards icon represents an image that is for sale. Details on where and how you can purchase the image will be in the image description.
    The palette and scroll icon represents that the user would specifically like critiques on the image, rather than simple comments.

  16. What are Account Credits? -
    Account Credits act as a kind of Side 7 currency. Account credits are earned primarily through participation in the community at large. Such participation includes activities such as:
    • constructive comments on other peopleís artwork
    • contests
    • volunteering time to the site
    • birthday anniversaries
    • and other activities as announced by the admins.
    The credit balance may be viewed from within your Account Management page.

    When enough credits have been earned, they may be spent on such things as account upgrades to 3 Star level, Featured Artist tokens, store discounts, additional daily uploads, and more!
  17. What are "Archived Images"? -
    Archived images are an additional feature of 3 and 5 Star account upgrades. A member with such an upgrade can opt to mark images as Archived. These images are not erased, but are instead no longer display in the member's portfolios, and are instead shown in a special Archived Images.

    This allows the member to organise his artwork, without disrupting any portfolio associations he may have established for a particular image, in case he decides to un-archive the image.

    For example, the member can keep his main gallery smaller for his best or more recent works, and his older works in the Archived Images portfolio.
  18. What are Mass Uploads? -
    Mass Uploads are special uploads that members with 3 and 5 Star account upgrades can perform. Image uploads marked as "Mass Upload" do not have a daily limit, however, they do not appear on the Recent Uploads page.

    The purpose behind the Mass Upload system is to allow members with 3 and 5 Star account upgrades the ability to upload large amounts of images into their galleries quickly, without flooding and overwhelming public pages.
