Salute the Sun - Fire Phoenix
Salute the Sun - Fire Phoenix by @zenphoenixa (Annabel Lee)

Wow, I'm actually uploading something without a delay of one month! O__O;; To be honest though, this pic has been complete since last week and I've only just gotten around to putting it up... gasp I'm becoming... ORGANISED!!!! screech XD

Ahem. ^.^;; So then, this is a different type of request pic for Zlok - different because Zlok requested a shaded phoenix to colour in Photoshop, although I decided to complete the pic as an added bonus... I think that this pic marks one of the new changes to my style; one which is extremely time consuming but worth the results - I've taken to colouring shadows in ink so that the image looks shinier. (I can hear my friend Draco groaning already. XD) Hand drawn border which caused me a lot of pain... >< this time it's not as easy to see the symmetry mistakes, heh heh heh. I traced the round shape using a biscuit container... =P then I hand coloured the border, due to my learning from the mistake I made in 'Phoenix of the Candlebark' where I decided to try and colour the border by computer and it went horribly wrong! O_O;; The phoenix's red colouring was also done by pencil, but everything else was done by comp in Paint Shop Pro 5.

Finally, what the hell does it mean? The concept was sort of inspired by how the Phoenix's death and rebirth is sometimes associated with the setting and dawning of the sun each day. This is meant to be the break of dawn when the sun starts coming out above the clouds... and of course some whopping big phoenix missing half it's body due to my aversion to drawing birdy legs has to be hanging around blocking the nice view. XD Bah Cans all that silly poetic stuff and goes off to lunch =P

Wow... just... wow! This is absolutely amazing. I love the effects you used in the background with the sun behind the clouds and the stars just barely visible around the edges. The clouds themselves I could stare at forever! Okay, maybe not that long, but you get the point. : ) I also really like the sort of dreamcatcher-ish design for the circle thing behind the phoenix. (Yes, technical terms!) And the detail you put into the bird itself leaves me breathless! You definitely have talent here. Don't ever forget that!

Wow, thank*you* so much for such a high quality comment! ^^ I'm really flattered, and I'm relieved that you felt the background worked because I don't often try my hand at making proper backgrounds on the comp... ^.^;; Lol, and don't worry about technical terms, I don't have a proper term for the squiggly border thing either! XD You're the first person to liken it to a Dream Catcher - the thought never entered my mind, but now I see how it can fit, so thankyou also for giving new meaning to the artwork! :D I've truly been inspired by your encouraging words, and thankyou heaps for visiting and sharing your thoughts with me! ^_^ Gives you cookies

Heya again! Waves ^.^ I was meant to reply earlier, but my internet connection was going as slow as a snail on crutches... =P boots the modem to hurry it up XD Anyhoo without further ado, thankyou so much for the kind comment and for rating my comments as well! Whew! (I didn't even know how the rating thing worked here on Side 7; it's not often I visit this place. ^^) I'm real glad to hear you like the background for this pic, and I reckon you have no trouble at all creating backgrounds like this on oekaki - heck, I reckon you create better ones! ^^ I'm still such a newbie when it comes to working with computer effects, so I'll submit to my superiors... :D bows To answer your question, this pic probably took... hmm... thinks a couple of days working on and off, possibly a week by working for an hour or two a day. I'm a real slowpoke when it comes to art... bah, I used to be able to turn out one pic a day five years ago. I'M GETTING OLD...!!! O_O screech Regains composure XD Aherm, well, I'd better stop rambling on my own page... ^_^;;; thankyou again for visiting and you're very welcome for the comment by the way - it was a very deserving oekaki piece, and anyone who can't see the talent and effort that went into it is either blind, dumb or both. ;) Never doubt your skills and don't be discouraged by people! Gives you donuts

Wow... Amazing image! The colouring is wonderful, so shiny and glowy. Great detail too, looks like a great amount of time went into this.
