Butterfly of Hell
Butterfly of Hell by @kiikii_sempai (Kii Takaishi)

I found the Butterfly of Hell concept from Bleach quite interesting, so I took it a step further and created a character design for it.

Copic marker on Deleter comic paper, about 9 - 10 hours.

Yay! A fellow Copic-user! This is absolutely amazing. I was right when I thought I could learn things from your artwork when I commented on your last image... I seem to have problems getting hair to look as highlighted and light as yours does. Did you use a regular copic or a Copic sketch for that? Any advice on how to get this sort of look?

I really like the design. I've only read the first chapter of Bleach in the US Shonen Jump, so I don't know much about the Butterfly of Hell, but that's a very cool title--and this image is equal to its coolness. I really like the pose--kind of like you caught the 'butterfly' landing, ready to attack. You also have amazing lineart... I'm jealous. I should get off my butt and work more on my images... Thank you for inspiring me!

Hehe, copics are expensive little suckers aren't they? :| I use Copic Sketch markers ALWAYS-- I absolutely hate the normal kind-- how can anyone get smooth and even coverage with such a tiny nub or blocky one? T_T; The way I color the hair is pretty simple-- I put more pressure twords the base of the locks and lift the marker as I stroke down. The highlights are left white, and it's kind of a practiced way of knowing where they should be in what quanitiy. (I actually probebly overhighlight, but I love shiny hair. XD) Contrast is the key to making it look thick and full, after the first color dries I will go back and repeat the process, but I leave the base color about 2 mm wider or longer than the new darker color. For this picture I actually used two different purples for most of the hair, to give it more contrast.

I am very happy I was able to inspire someone! I think it is a first for me, it is really nice to know someone likes my work that much. ^^

I have shaky hands by nature, so I use micron pens to outline-- usually I can't draw straight so the result is varying line widths, which works out in the end. XD

A very nice paper to ink on is Deleter brand comic paper ( http://www.deleter.com/eng/supplies/f.html ), it's very smooth and feels like the ink flows well. All of this paper is very nice-- and cheap too!

I hope this was helpful... Very long... =__=; Keep working hard!
