Starfield walpaper - 1024x768
Starfield walpaper - 1024x768 by @denise (Denise Chan)

Had a go at making a starfield from a tutorial - I quite like the results, so here's a wallpaper of it! Sorry 800x600 people, you'll have to resize...or use it as it is, I don't suppose it matters.

Yes, this is all Photoshop from scratch...

Hey, that's awesome! I like starfields.

I also read that very same tutorial and started doing starfields myself... My problem is that I don't have Photoshop 7... I tried first with Paint Shop Pro 7, but I got bored and didn't do it properly. The second time I had Photoshop Elements 2, and since I was at work, it came out pretty okay... Want to see? Sorry about the plug, but I need to show it around, heh. I didn't bother to try to do it exactly like in the tutorial, since I knew I had other programs. Oh well.

Er... back to your picture! It's really nice and detailed, I could only hope that the jpg compression didn't eat so much of it... and that it came in my desktop size, heh.

Thank you! :)

Your starfield is pretty - I like the different-coloured stars!

That is one fantastic tutorial, isn't it? This turned out SUPERCOOL, I like the hint of rainbow in it.

Hmmm...should I post it on art_skill_trade?? It's not exactly drawing, unless you count globbing on the space dust, just...Photoshop-ing.

The rainbow is actually a leftover artifact from a lensflare...I've never used lensflares with such impunity before! XD

...I don't see why not. Plug the tutorial, then post your result under a cot. Cut. Cut. Post it under a cut. Not really a before/after, but...definitely an after! DO IT!

This is a really nice pic, nebulous and all CG-y. As for a critique... I can't really see anything wrong with it. That's a first for me, being so 'negative' and all, so I'm told. It's mezmerizing, just like wallpapers are supposed to be. If I was shown this just randomly I would've expected to be told that it was made with a 3D graphics editing program, as opposed to a JPG editor such as Adobe Photoshop, unless I'm missing something. So, how long'd'it take, and how many layers did you end up with?

Thanks for the comment! It's amazing what PS can do if only you know how.

It didn't take long at all - an hour maybe, at most two. I flattened some layers, but there was one for each larger star - so there were about 40 layers altogether.
