While Skwirl "worked" on Nova's arm, she filled her in on her own totally true story. Like her weaselly patient, her family was torn apart by Sevin's minions, and so she had a totally real reason to have a grudge against the guy. She was afraid to do anything to retaliate, though, for she feared that her fiance (a top surgeon at FAWN) may be being targeted by the cult as a potential new Recruit. That would be just such an awful and inconvenient thing, y'know? When the wound was wrapped and everything was done, they went to the Head Nurse's private office to chat about it a little more. She showed Nova her marriage license to add legitimacy to her story, but it was kind of odd; Nova immediately recognized it as a forgery, as it was embossed with a seal that hadn't been used in about ten years. She didn't want to tell her new nursey pal that she might be being duped, no reason to break her heart without all of the facts. She agreed to work with the squirrel, to tail her fiance for a while and see if anything seemed suspicious.
In addition to half of the payment for her time and effort, she was given a couple of gifts. The first was the best: a FAWN staff card, which gave her access to most of the hospital, and free coffee from the shop in the lobby. That alone offset the torment of having her arm worked on. Of course, she couldn't be caught sneaking around, so she'd have to be very careful with how and when she used it. Apparently, Nurse Juglans had the authority to hand such cards out, so it was alright, but it would just be better if they didn't have to explain the situation to anyone else, so it'd be best to avoid being noticed.
The next gift was.. some sort of lucky marble. Nova wasn't really listening when Skwirl explained that it was supposed to be a magic rock that would "keep her safe" from.. something about Sevin's cult. That couldn't possibly be important to remember. She had enough on her mind already, trying to decide if she wanted coffee or hot chocolate, but she agreed to keep the dumb thing in her pocket while she was working on this job.
Skwirl gave her one more thing, but it wasn't really a gift: just the medicine to fight the infection in her arm. It didn't seem infected, but whatever, a nurse would know better. She didn't plan on using the medicine anyway, but she took it, just in case.
Skwirl told Nova to do things her own way, whether that meant dropping by the hospital or following her target home to spy on him there. Actually, it almost seemed like she was encouraging the latter. Kind of weird, bordering on illegal, but not the strangest thing she'd ever been asked to do. Observe, take notes, look for any troubling signs, and report back to FAWN once a week with any updates. Easy money. The hardest part would be figuring out how to move around efficiently while she couldn't ride her motorcycle.
