Sailor Nobel Gundam
Sailor Nobel Gundam by @migucast (Miguel Castaneda)

Well, Nadia's birthday has finally rolled around and with it, the ability to FINALLY upload this! I've been sitting on this picture for around two weeks all ready... Nadia didn't want to see it until her birthday and if I'd uploaded it before then, she would've seen it in her Museum... :\ Anyway...

In anycase... The end result is this abhorent abomination. :p And horrible birth spawn of Naoko Takeuchi and Mika Akitaka. ^^;;;;

Basically... The only Gundam Nadia has ever liked has been Nobel. She often calls it Sailor V Gundam because it resembles Sailor Moon character, Minako's former super hero identity before she became Sailor Venus (Ugh! I can't believe I know THIS much about the stupid show! Somebody SHOOT me! PLEASE! I'm BEGGING YOU!!! ;_;)...

So... For some reason... I thought it'd be funny to place Minako in a Nobel Gundam outfit, a la Mika Akitaka's MS Girls illustrations.

If you don't know who Mika Akitaka is, he's a mecha designer that first got involved with Gundam with ZZ and went on to do designs for Char's Counterattack and Stardust Memories. He's also the mecha designer for Sakura Wars and Nadesico. In anycase... Around the late 80s, he started doing a collection of drawings where he took a bunch of bubbly cute girls and placed them in suits of power armor based on the various Mobile Suits of Gundam. Which is where I got this idea from. :p He's also taken the whole MS Girls concept and run with it in the form of a game and anime series called Galaxy Frauline Yuna. Never seen it... But maybe some of you have. :p

Moving on... The picture was a nightmare-not because I was drawing a Sailor Moon character but because I faced many hardships trying to draw it... :\ First of all... I wanted an action pose with her attacking with the Beam Ribbon buuuuuuut.. I couldn't find a pose I was happy with... :( Sooooo.. I copped out and just stood her there. Though.. Thankfully, Mr. Akitaka's pictures are like this too sooooooo... :p

Though the greatest challenge working on this picture was that I had almost NO hard copy MS girl pictures to draw from except for an old Animerica with an RGM-79 Custom Girl. :\ And even though I had that AND all of Nadia's Sailor Moon manga and artooks AND her Nobel Figure in her room while drawing it... All the only really good reference for an actual GUNDAM girl I had was a picture of a Nu Girl I downloaded a while back... And with IT on the computer in MY room, along with my Nu figure for comparison, and Nadia in there all the time, and me not being able to take ANY of her stuff out of her room until she was asleep, forcing me to work in the dark at some points... It was an uphill battle the WHOLE way.. :p Plus... That damned Ribbon Vent on her chest took FOREVER to draw drove me up the WALL for a WEEK! Ugh.. >< Am I glad THAT'S over... :p Though... The sad thing now is... I know have an idea for a Beserker Mode version of this picture with a little b00ty type fanservice... 69 I think I'm going to be sick now... Excuse me...

...

Oh.. And.. Happy Birthday, Schweetie-POO! I hope you like it.... :p Now... just drag me off to die somewhere... [THUD!]

Aiyaa, sounds liek you had many hardships just for one pic. But I think the end result came out great.

Being the big Minako fan I am, it's always good to see new pics of her! I really like the outfit! It's like cool and cute at the same time! And the coloring ain't too shabby neither ^_^

Codename wa Sailor V!

Wow, you really put so much effort into this picture! So many references... It must've driven you crazy! O_o;;; The lack of an action pose doesn't ruin the image, really--the pose is great just the way it is! And you put in the Beam Ribbon AND the Beam Hoop! I can imagine that drawing the Nobel suit would be pretty hard, but the end result is really awesome and detailed--it all looks really good, and the colored pencil coloring makes it look kind of sketchy... And the Nobel suit really does look very much like Nobel Gundam itself! It must've been hard to make colored pencils give an appearance of metal... I think the boots and headpiece are my favorite parts. And I see that you drew in loose strands of hair--very shoujo-y!

Tank u, schweetie-poooooooo! I'm really surprised, and very touched, that you drew a character from your most hated series for me... ^-^ This was such a cool, super creative idea! I'm so haaaaaaaappy and pwooooooooooud! ;_;

LOL, are you actually gonna draw the berserker mode version...? ^^;;;

The things you do for your schweetie, Red. What a detailed drawing! I'm with Nadia on the boots & headpiece -- definitely my favorite parts. You're quite a good colorist with pencils....I can tell that this is one of those pieces that looks great on paper. Hopefully at some future SSUcon I can see your colored pencil work "in person" ^^ I meant to say this earlier on the Rin pic, but it's just as appropriate here -- Red, I'm having so much fun continuing to watch you grow as an artist. You just get better & better, and try so hard. Thank you for sharing your work ^^
