The Native Gypsy
The Native Gypsy by @laursefc (Lauren Sefchik)

One of my most recent drawings to date right now. She's from my groups game 'Rhythm Strike' which is a dance-fighter we proposed for our final this quarter (last week) in my Game Level & Gameplay class. Needless to say, I wasn't satisfied with the project. I had reluctant teammates who gave me bland, boring character designs to deal with. I was our teams character stylist and worked on the profiles for all of them.

Anyway, Nvya is my own design who was my second creation right after Risu. My inspiration of this character came during the opening ceremonies of this years Winter Olympics in Salt Lake. I observed the Native American tribal clothing and really liked all the feathers they wore, along with the dance style that they did. Being from Arizona...you'd THINK I'd pay more attention to this prior...but nope.

Anyway, I took the whole Native American look and modernized it, stylized it, and added wings and a gypsy flair and then ended up with her as my final result. There's an earlier initial sketch I made of her that I will probably ink and then display it later. But this is my final product of Nvya.

She's a very serious character because she has a past that she keeps trying to run away from, but the tournament (this game's plotline) keeps calling her back to bring up her past again. But whenever I play a bunch of fun music, she's got a sexy wild side to her that she likes to show off. I played "Space Cowboy" (YES! LEAVE ME ALONE OKAY! I DON'T LISTEN TO THAT STUFF OFTEN!)in my car today and Nvya ended up in Ayumi Hamasaki's 'Endless Sorrow' cowboy angel outfit. Then I played 'The Passenger' from the Batman Forever soundtrack the day before and she ended up in all black leather with metallic wings.

Oh, speaking of the wings, they are laced with a sharp steel edge because she makes cuts with them. I have plans to actually make this costume of hers and cosplay her (hopefully) for Anime Expo 2004. Let's see if that ends up happening, shall we?

Medians used were sketch paper, followed by colored pencil, oil pastel, and then outlined in a black colored pencil. I'm still fighting with the whole 'inking' issue. ~_~* Sorry if it looks insanely dirty rather than a clear image. Artwork © Copyright 2002 Lauren Sefchik

Hi Elvy, um... you keep talking about a game, would this be a RPG or Video? (or VideoRPG?) Just wondering.

The Artwork here is great, you must be proud to be so talented.

Later,

Andy (that livejournal guy)

LOL!! ANDY!! jump-huggles him like a little neko-gal

This game is actually a dance-fighter type! ^_^ And my skills aren't THAT good...but I do like the design of this character, and I actually like the way I drew her from a stylized perspective. The hands aren't the greatest things in the world, but I actually like them for the fact of the simple gesture they imply.

That...and she's a kick-#*$ character! Mweee! ^_^
