Newtype Submission
Newtype Submission by @migucast (Miguel Castaneda)

Update! As of today, November 16th, 2003, I can official confirm that this picture has been printed in Newtype USA Magazine, Volume 2, Number 11, November 2003 (Angelic Layer). On page 149, on the lower left hand corner. ;) An in terms of Mazinkaiser coverage given in Newtype after I originally posted this picture... The August 2003 (Sakura Wars) issue included episode one of Mazinkaiser as its sample DVD (MUCH better dub than Shin Getter, but did they have to mess with the attack names? :) and... The October 2003 (With Hunter Robin) issue had a story in it somewhere about Mazinkaiser... I don't have that issue so I can't tell you about it. :p

Well... This is my first submission to a print magazine... Ever. Well... Fanart submission... I had a letter printed in Animerica many years ago but that wasn't fanart... ^^;;; Though my chances of having this printed probably aren't good, at least I have on my side the uniqueness of this piece! ^^ I mean, the fanart in there is always the same... Inuyasha, Cowboy Bebop, Chobits, DBZ, Sailor Moon, and the occasional piece of Square fanart (Square... [SHUDDERS])... But this? Except for that the second issue where they were showing some of their Japanese fanart, there hasn't been any Super Robots in their fanart section yet! ;) And considering how they keep reusing Mazinkaiser images in their ads, I'd say someone over there is a fellow Mazinger fan! >:) And thus... We have... THIS! For those of you not in the know, that there is the first of anime's pilotted robots... Mazinger Z! Built to fight the ambitions of the evil Dr. Hell, with it's young and devil may care pilot, Kouji Kabuto at its helm, it fought for week after week on TV and in manga to save the World! And now as the fourth iteration of the Mazinger Saga, Mazinkaiser approaches its US release, I humbly submit this fanart to Newtype a lone voice representing those who still remember the thrill of super robot JUSTICE (!) and as a plea to them and ADV to PLEASE begin printing stories on Mazinkaiser and to begin putting trailers of it in their DVDs... 'Cause... Dr. Hell is coming...! And the time has come for the legend to return! MAZIIIIIIIIIN GO!!!! PILOTTEEEEEEER OOOOOOON!!!!!

P.S. BTW, the funny little building in the distance is the Photo-Atomic Research Institute, Mazinger's home, which lies at the foot of Mt. Fuji. :)

Thank you! ^^ Though I wasn't able to do everything that I wanted with the picture, I tried really hard for a good background and stuff! Thanks! ^^

Good luck to you! I want to submit art to Newtype, but I haven't drawn anything that I feel is worthy yet. I'm sick of seeing how they will print amazing fanart, and then obvious direct copies--that really makes me mad! Original and cool art like this definetly deserves to get in, so good luck!

Thanks!

It's probably because Newtype's submission guidelines are only about what dimensions or resolution pictures should be at. ^^;;; Oh, well...

I'm not really too familiar with the series. (I've attempted to read Great Mazinger but, I couldn't get the hang of Kanji...)

It looks cool, though.

You've... Attempted to read Great Mazinger...? O_O;;;; I've never even seen any of the manga at all outside of history books... Most of what I have are dim TV memories from my childhood, and a few episodes on tape somewhere... How I wish they'd bring some of it out in the US... But... Alas... Today's manga market is all about fantasy, shoujo, and harems... Barely any room for any science fiction, let alone Super Robots... How utterly depressing... ;_;

I'm going to try to read it again.

I bought the manga at a local book store. Somebody ordered it and never paid for it. (and this was a few years back)

I see. Heh. I once saw what seemed to be a Mazinger Z manga at the local anime shop but we were low on money and my girlfriend said I couldn't have it... Haven't seen it since... ;_; Not that I could've read it... It can take me up to a whole day or more to translate a single sentence depending on complexity and relative obscurity of the words used (meaning... How hard is it for me to find exact definitions in my dictionaries)... :\
