Mirrored Promise :: Prologue :: 06
Mirrored Promise :: Prologue :: 06 by Ainsley (@snowhawk)

This content is part of a serial. Read it in webcomic format here!

Oh- Oops. The slavers didn't MEAN to kill Orrin, but the majority of them in this group are incompetent.

Also, look, some of the dates from the calendar. :3 (I have an entire custom calendar for this.)

A little information: Onyx is what is known as a Royal Guard. Kieran is a Guardian.

Royal Guards protect the entire Royal family, and traditionally, there was only one. As the Delphin Empire grew, the Royal Guard took on managing security around the royal estate, then eventually the city.

Guardians existed prior to Royal Guards. They were charged with protecting a single delphin. It wasn't uncommon for the two to develop a romantic relationship. Not recommended, but happened.

I'll have the whole break down on my website (and maybe elsewhere) later.

(Also: Multiple partners and non-het relationships are extremely common and accepted. I think of all my characters, I have one, MAYBE 2 that are straight. Basically: everyone queer af. Kinda like the writer. :V)

Most pages will be rated Teen, despite the pages themselves not needing that rating. This is what I'm comfortable with. I've picked the rating reasons as what's relevant for the full chapter, and other chapters will get different ratings.

This is only part 1 of the prologue. I'm saving the rest for later.

If you want to support me financially, I have support tiers on my Gumroad, with options for 1, 3, 6, and 12 month subscriptions. Gumroad~!

You know, before I read the description, my first instinct was "whoops, that wasn't supposed to happen". Now all I can wonder is how these "slavers" stay in business if regular abductions go as well.

Do you have a calendar for this world somewhere? It would be nice to see what kind of timeframe this is taking place in.

@fragmented_imagination: This particular group is a splinter of a larger one. They have more ambition (thus: going after the Emperor), but not the experience that some of their peers have.

I'm looking for a way to put a calendar up that doesn't involve me hand coding everything, though it's looking like that's how it's going to have to happen. The Prologue takes place quite a while before the main story, so once this is done, there will be a long time jump, and that will be (somewhat) filled in through story bits later. I was going to do the 2nd half of the prologue later, but I might just finish it up and start posting it. Still have to decide.

When I mentioned a calendar, my thought was to simply draw up what a typical calendar would look like and post it as a piece with a link in the comic's description. Maybe a yearly one to show how the months were organized. Since you threw in the dates, it would be easy to quickly reference.

@fragmented_imagination: Yeah, this one currently has a Google Sheets version, but I want to make something prettier for general sharing. Everything has been slow for like... a year and half with my hand/wrist issues. x_x
