Can't finish art
19 May 2024, 11:23 PM

I feel like I can never finish art anymore, I used to draw so much but now I can't. Very frustrating. I have so many things I want to make and so many WIPs but nope my concentration and skills have seemed to vanish. I don't know if I'll ever be able to draw like I used to anymore but I'll keep doodling. If I start posting shitty unfinished stuff, this is why.

For drawing, my problem isn't so much the finishing as the starting: I've got a handful of sketches languishing for years half-done as I struggle to muster the... I guess you'd say confidence to draft the missing elements (characters, background &c.). Writing is where I founder the worst—the IOT Epilogues are memed for a reason, and not counting one-and-done short stories, I don't think I've ever properly tied off a serial project.

And don't get me started on my game modding... HAV - Mr. Bennet 2

@Thorvald: God yeah, it's a difficult thing among all creative projects and I can assure you that I have trouble creating and finishing music along with drawings. And drafting stuff for serial projects is challenging to me too, hence why I've never actually released any of my doujinshi (it's unfinished and I'm not sure how I want to continue) as for game-modding, I already suck at simple html/css coding so I couldn't even imagine... Good luck man

Oh man, I couldn't draw for the past couple of years, it really is frustrating. Nothing felt right. I feel your pain and hope it'll get better for you. My problem is that I got really fixated on perfecting everything and got stuck, and I tend to make gazillion WIPs too and then spend so much time on them I lose interest. I think it's a good thing that you keep drawing still, however shitty you feel the result is. Eventually it probably can help you to get back on track. At least that's what I'm trying to do myself and I'm at least moving from the dead spot. Even if I don't have anything to publish still, it's better than having nothing at all. Looking up some cool art for inspiration could help too probably. I mean, I don't know for sure what could help you but I hope it is temporary. Don't give up! Having shitty WIP is better than having nothing.

@abyssEden: Thank you! I know it's a pretty common issue among artists to not be able to finish work, but no matter how common it's still so annoying ;_; I honestly should look at more inspo, especially from old DeviantArt posts (my favorite) I hope you and I both can learn to manage art block better, praying to god.

@marven4lyf: Yeah, it's pretty annoying and bad no matter how common! Thank you, you have all my well wishes too and I hope it'll get better. I hope I didn't come off as minimizing your issues, I wanted to be encouraging but you know how it can be in written text lol.

Old DeviantArt was the best! I would go there every day, it was fun. I usually look up art on Tumblr nowadays but it has problem with clogging search with unrelated stuff sometimes

@abyssEden: Haha dw, you didn't come off that way at all! I'm glad for the encouragement ^^ I sometimes browse Tumblr, although only on my tablet since I'm logged in there and don't remember my password. I used a few times in my life but never stayed, for some reason I just couldn't get with it -_-
