Public blacklists are pretty stupid and feel like harassment. If you do public blacklists- why?

Public blacklists are harassment. It doesn't matter if the one who made the blacklist cries that they do not support harassment nor support watchers/followers harassing those who're on the list (said poster cannot stop what any watcher/follower does).

Given how long some public blacklists are from what I've seen before, such posts tell me that the poster is terminally online.

@WAHlelujah: I saw a really long public blacklist on toyhou.se and most of the people listed were there for such petty reasons like "they were not a good friend to me umu" and it just made me wonder.... Why had this sort of thing ever become normal? I will never trust anyone with a public blacklist.

@marven4lyf: Blocklists (and "casual blocking" in general) feels like a product of the Social Media age, at best a means of public shaming, at worst outright trolling. I hate the term "virtue signalling" but it's essentially a type of social theatre I tend to associate with younger people as an extension of playground politics: "It's not enough that I hate _x, you must too!" Now port that mentality onto platforms designed to amplify outrage, and blocklists become a fast means of crowdsourcing vindication over a perceived slight.

The one time I've seen blocklists employed 'constructively' was during the initial Alt-Right insurgency as a "neighbourhood watch" against known trolls and harassers.

@Thorvald: Yeah I get the impression that people who do this somehow, in their twisted logic, thinks it makes them look good which couldn't be farther from the truth.

That's a petty reason to put someone on a blacklist. Then again, a good chunk of reasons somebody may be on a blacklist are already stupid.

I agree. More times than not a user whose made a public blacklist ('bewares' even) against someone or any group of people (especially in fandoms) tend to have skeletons in their closet.
