man....what is it with you and graffiti?

Why do I like graffiti? Well, for one, I think too many people assume that graffiti is illegal ALL the time… There are many, many professional graffiti artists. If you’d think about it, those huge graffiti murals can’t be illegal because they’d be caught before they finished. Look at http://www.mear.net/enterindex.html for example. He did graffiti of Sesame Street on a children’s daycare for pay! Is that bad!?!.. Another reason I like graffiti… It’s a form of art that expresses freedom and rebellion against the norm. The reason people tag the sides of trains, trucks, and the like is because they want to be known. They want to tell the world “HEY, here I am.” It’s not meant to piss off anyone… Another Reason… I’m a fan of abstract art. Graffiti is like the street version of abstract art. Nobody expects a bunch of kids off the street to create something so great, but they do. That’s why it’s so surprising.. Some kids off the street doing art at the level of a painter with a spray paint can. Another reason.. I’m getting into the underground hip-hop culture. This would include things like rapping, break dancing, beatboxing, and graffiti. It’s like it’s own small culture. It’s something I’m into. Just because you’re not into it doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. You say most of your life, you’ve been introduced to graffiti as a crime. What I’m trying to show you that it’s not always illegal. Don’t act as if I don’t know what I’m talking about, because you know I know more about it than you do so there’s not much reason you should doubt what I say. Like what JSR said, “Graffiti is art. But it CAN also be an act of vandalism.” They didn’t say was, they said can. Think about it…
