The Space Rays
The Space Rays by @Raygirl (Hannah DS)

It started with on limbless being...spanning out to other normal limbless beings. Them came Angel Rays, deamon Rays, water Rays, Ghost Rays, Vampire Rays and mechanical Rays

Finally came the Space Rays...and here are mine

Name: Cptn Thomas John Barker (Rainbow scarf, brown hair)

Age: 48

Home: Planet 500612009/Z

Name taken from: Tom Baker, my favourite Dr Who

Data: Thomas is the captain of the Sci-Fly ship, which travels all over space helping out those in need. He entered into space travel quite late in life, preferring to skip school, find a job and raise a family. He married a girl called Leosa and had a baby girl called Miya. It was after that he decided to take up a 'Mature Student' course at the local Space Academy. With the support of his loving family he completed the course with flying colours, however before he could celebrate, his house was bombed by arsonists, killing his wife and daughter. Heart broken and lonely, Thomas took up his wife's dream of travelling space and bought a ship, the Sci-Fly. Thomas is a quiet man with a gentle demeanour, but he doesn't suffer fools gladly. Yet he's never patronising to his crew, and treats them all with equal care and respect. He has adopted Noot and loves her as much as he did his own daughter. He has some rather eccentric habits, such as his fetish for brightly coloured scarves and Jelly Babies ^_^

Name: Leila Era Lucas (Purple hair + purple outfit)

Age: 30

Home Planet: Genesis Plantetaria

Name taken from: Star Wars

Data: Elegant, charming and beautiful. Leila catches eyes and hearts wherever she goes. Her bright cheeky attitude is impossible to hate, and she loves meeting new people. Her only fault is her terrible clumsiness. For this reason, she has been on a pilgrimage from her home planet. At a certain age all of her tribe take a pilgrimage across space to discover a heartfelt truth about themselves. Leila has been on this quest for over 5 years ^_^ Because of her clumsiness she's lost several jobs, yet she is a trained nurse with advanced healing powers. In the operating theatre she's a completely different person, strong, careful, dedicated and quick. Like the rest of her tribe, Leila can fly, and she has limited powers of levitation over objects. This causes problems when she picks up something with her mind then gets distracted. This often results in people getting whacked in the face with said item. Leila is very fond of Thomas, and tries to be close to him at all times. She’s also taken Noot under her wing as a foster mother

Name: Douglas Dent (Blue dungarees and blonde hair)

Age: 32

Home Planet: Jupiter

Name Taken from: Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy

Data: Douglas is the ships’ mechanic. He’s a jolly and good-natured soul and is the real muscle behind the ship. It was he who saved the Sci-Fly (Originally known as Enterprise7) from destruction, and re-modelled and repaired it. When selling it to Thomas, Barker asked if he wanted to stay on as the ships Mechanic, and Doug, already attached to the ship, agreed. Douglas looks up to Thomas greatly, seeing his as a compassionate and loyal friend. He also has a secret crush on Emily Blake, but is far too shy to tell her. Instead he keeps a journal called ‘H1LL1’ to whom he tells all of his secrets. Despite his personality, Doug has a lot of secrets. He has a past on his home planet he doesn’t wish to recount, and a nasty scar running across the back of his head. This often makes him forgetful, but when it comes to the ship, he knows every part of it inside out and upside-down. He is also noted for bringing Jacobs back to life after he was found abandoned in a burning house. Due to his Jupitarian species, Doug has very high endurance levels, and is much stronger than he looks. He can walk across beds of coals and ice in bare feet and not feel a thing, and can walk straight though fire.

Name: Emily Sofia Blake (Dark brown hair, green vest, rose tattoo)

Age: 28

Home Planet: Vega 50000B

Name Taken from: Blake 7

Data: Originally the daughter of a mining family, Emily (or Blake as he prefers to be called) left her home and set out to make a life in the city. Originally she thought of joinging the Space Academy, but instead she joined a band called Sabotage. She, along with 3 other band members (Dickson Yates, Parle-Parl Wen and Ross Carmen) played loads of gigs and generally had a good time. Emily eventually fell in love with Ross, the other limbless member of the band. But the band was having problems. Ross and Dick didn’t get along, mainly because of Dick’s big mouth and bad attitude. In the end, in a rage, Ross shot Dick dead in front of Blake. Traumatised and scared, Blake went to Parle-Parl and the two of them brought Ross to justice. Both then decided to take up scholarships at the Space Academy. A much happier Blake finished the course and got a job on the Sci-Fly as a navigator. Blake is still haunted by Ross’ memory, which tends to make her bitter and cold. Underneath however she’s much nicer than she seems, rebellious, brave and fiercely loyal. She doesn’t really get on with anyone on the ship except Thomas. Leila’s girlyness annoys her, as does Doug’s shyness around her. Jacobs drives her nuts, and she doesn’t get on with small children or animals that well either. But she’s a firm member of the team, and a superb navigator.

Name: Noot (Barker) (Pale green hair, grey jumper)

Age: 7

Home Planet: Centurial Minor

Name Taken from: Aliens

Data: When he home planet was invaded, Noot escaped capture by hiding under the floorboards of her house. When she emerged some 12 hours later, she was all alone. Forced to survive alone, Noot befriended a creature called Dwarf, who in return became loyal to her and protected her from danger. After about a week of surviving alone, Noot and Dwarf were rescued by the Sci-Fly, and adopted by Thomas and Leila. Noot only has one procession, an old grey sweater that she refuses to be parted with; despite the fact it’s very old and matted. Because of the trauma she suffered she finds it hard to adapt to the softer live onboard the Sci-Fly, preferring to explore and play in the network of unused ventilation shafts. (Much like Noot from Aliens when she’s first found). Dwarf (Named after the Red Dwarf!) is her constant companion, with his ability to change from his diminutive size to a creature 4 times his size in order to protect Noot.

Name:Jacobs 20080 (Grey complextion, black trousers, wires)

Age: N/A

Home Planet: Sensori Minor 1

Name Taken From: Airplane (Now before you say ‘Airplane isn’t a Sci-fi movie!’ Airplane 2 the Sequel was set in space! So there

Data: He was rescued from a burning building on his home planet by Douglas. Seeing as his original family had disappeared, Douglas re-programmed Jacobs to be the ship’s cleaner, and Jacobs seems perfectly happy in his role (He gets to run around with a feather duster). If you’ve seen the film Airplane, you’ll remember Johnny from the first film, and Jacobs from the second (even thought it’s the same guy). Jacobs is based on this guy, random, hopelessly camp, and almost insane. He bounces around the place, always wearing a smile, and has a habit for saying things completely at random to confuse everyone. Not a lot if known about his past, and if Jacobs knows he’s not telling anyone. He’s very close to Douglas (before you ask he’s NOT gay…just very very camp), and gets on well with the rest of the crew (Except for Emily, but she’s just a grouch). He can also be plugged into the ships main frame as an autopilot. He’s mainly Doug’s assistant and ship cleaner, but he has lots of other jobs he can perform.
