Archaeopteryx - openCanvas
Archaeopteryx - openCanvas by @denise (Denise Chan)

Two of my childhood (ie. 6 years old) passions were dinosaurs, and birds. I'm still infatuated with birds, though my passion for dinosaurs has cooled somewhat.

So I chose to do archaeopteryx - the link between dinosaurs and birds - as my first big openCanvas piece. I'm good at retaining useless facts; I amazed myself by being able to spell 'archaeopteryx' correctly even after all these years.

It's definitely not like Photoshop, but I think I like the effect. I tend to blend colours together once given the chance so the detail is a bit smooshed, but that's OK. The blurry foreground was a bit of a disaster though, because I forgot I couldn't simply gaussian blur it...

I would really appreciate your comments on this, as it's my first step in a 'new' medium!

(By the way - openCanvas 1.1, which I used, is available for free download here.) Artwork © Copyright 2003 Denise Chan
