My original concept. "Not far future, city-states are surrounded by high walls and can only be entered through checkpoints, as in this example. Cities, by design, are autonomous entities with an internal production cycle. That if there are problems, they will be able to exist in complete autonomy. Inside there are huge manufactories, workshops, factories and separate areas for residents. Through the deserts, the only way connecting such formations is through highways built during the formation of new cities."
