I’m starting to imagine that these guys are Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Bosses that are optional fight. I imagine them as NPC’s that help the player reach certain locations, but if you want to fight them you have to go to special dungeons to do so and if you do defeat them you get a chance of them asking to join your team, but you had to at least defeat both of them once for them to potentially ask to join you…also you have to get through 20 floors of dungeon to reach them.
