Series: Darkness Becomes Me

Age: 18

As a half human/half elf, Carriel is conflicted by the issue of immortality. Having lived outside the realms of the fae, she is mortal, which is what her mother, Akemi, intended. However, as she travels the world of Yereh, searching for her mother's killer, she also considers the option of becoming immortal.

She is a bard-in-training, a wannabe thief, and a hopeless gambler. Unlike her elf brethren, she does not know any magic beyond simple spells; which are often regarded as mere parlor tricks.

Carriel has a disdain for humans, even though she happens to be half human. She is influenced by her beloved teacher Chikusho, a demon with ties to the elves. Carriel, who arbitrarily nicknamed Chikusho "Jappi-chan," dearly loves him, though he does not appear to wholly reciprocate her feelings for hidden reasons. She is tempted to become immortal simply to have an eternity with him. However, she meets a man on her travels named Chiyobi, who slowly is able to change her mind and helps her appreciate both the simplicities and complexities that compose human life. The new-found appreciation for mortals further conflicts Carriel, who finds herself falling for Chiyobi. She must choose either an eternal life, hopefully with her teacher and perhaps lover, or remain mortal and be resigned to the fact that she only would have a limited amount of time to spend with her new-found love, Chiyobi.
