Life or Death
Life or Death by @Ivie (Rene Orso)

This is more of a concept than anything...the quality of the art is really really really bad. grin But what I'm trying to do here is make it hard to decipher whether the subject is being pulled down or jumping/rising out. One of these days I'll do the real thing...I just need a decent Macintosh and some loverly graphics programs. :) Rated 'T' because there's something about this that I can't place...I can imagine a parent raising their eyebrow. LOL

THIS is a great idea picture! It really has all that you need here, it maybe needs some tweaking and...well, I don't think the art quality's quite as bad as you say, but a little more refinement may be in order, just to make sure the goo doesn't look quite so...gooey.

Compositionally, to make it "ambiguous", as you say...Perhaps it'd be good to add some more canvas space to the top and bottom of this, and perhaps even a little to the left...

OR, widen the canvas size right and left, top and bottom, to make an "arch" sort of composition (with the figure and grave in the middle, perhaps a little off-center to the right), and put the sun (or a light) RIGHT above 'im, in an archway...but also do something below the figure, to emphasize that idea that... "OK, he may be getting pulled under..."

Eh, that probably sounded confusing. If you want, feel free to send me a copy of this and say, "Athie, why don't you show me what you mean?"

blarg.
