Father's Spirit by @kristensk (Kristen Sharpe)
Shippou looks at the night sky, thinking of his father.
This actually started as practice for making starfields, following the tutorial by Greg Martin. Then, it grew into this. This is my first posted image created entirely in the computer, Shippou sketch and everything. There are still things about Shippou and the grass in particular that I'm not happy with... but I can't put my finger on the problem and I've been toying with it for days. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

grin Reminds me of the Lion King - but in a good way, of course!
Really love the fox-shaped nebula-mist-cloud-thing, there - it's sufficiently space-dust-like, but not so much that you can't see the fox shape.
Wee Shippou looks just plain awed...
What I'd suggest for the grass, is doing it in several layers that correspond to their distance from the 'camera' - the very furthest the darkest and most blurry, and lightening from there. That way it looks like it's got more depth.
Also, don't be afraid to put a dab or two of Really Bright Highlights on Shippou himself - just because it's dark, doesn't mean there won't be a lot of contrast!
I love this picture. The sky is gorgeous and I love the mist that forms the fox-like shape in the sky. I think the best part of the picture is (other than the adorable theme itself) how realistic the night sky looks. I don't see a problem with the grass, but maybe Shippou's lighting could be toyed with. He looks less realistic than the rest of the picture. (Obviously, since he's an anime character lol). Anyway, I think this is quite excellent and adorable overall.
Well, you already know what I think. And, I love this one. I love the detail on little Shippo and the detail on his father's spirit, making him there, but not there at the same time. And, very lovely starfield! ;D
