First in a set of bookmarks (I hope!) The idea was to gryphon-ify some common Hong Kong birds (s'where I live), and put them on bookmarks.

This is an Oriental Magpie Robin (Copsychus saularis) - they're pretty common, and beautiful birds, too!

Some experimentation on cough nonexistent backgrounds cough here, as well as tree bark and feather detail.

Detail shot of the gryph: click here

This was a FUN painting to do!

This is so cool : D I love unique gryphs, so cool! What is she, Magpie Robin/mouse? Cool tail and backlegs, whatever she be <: And the perch she's climbing on is just as neato looking. I love your style of shading and highlighting! o:

Thanks - glad you like it (because I'm really quite pleased with it! XD)

I'm not sure about the back portion, really...if you look at a real-life magpie robin, it's something like a small rat. XD It doesn't matter, really!

(And it's a he, by the way...girl magpie robins are grey with a lovely peach tummy. ;) I ought've painted a pair together - maybe I'll do that with the next bookmark!)

He, fun job with the little ratty backside.

The "non bg" works here, as it reminds one of clouds (though I almost think you working them into clouds might've worked better, actually)....

very VERY nice. i love how even though the branch is not super-detailed, it give you the impression of detail. the griphon idea is really cool. i like the way it looks like a bird and then you realize it isn't just quite that.
