100 Palette Challenge // Palette #3 // Milkweed by @3ofpents

Today's palette comes from an unnecessarily beautiful art nouveau style French ad for bicycles printed in 1902.

I struggled a lot with this one, hence why I didn't post Monday and this will probably be the only one I do this week.

Something about the variation of color here really threw me off. I've used a sort of similar palette before in my Aqualad fanart, but that was starting with the idea and the palette followed, partially out of necessity. Starting with the palette first was more tricky.

But honestly? That was kind of the point.

I ended up settling on milkweed as a subject because I was focusing on the green and purple. I've actually wanted to design a milkweed pattern for a while, and I tried a while back, but it was really intimidating once I got down to the details of the flowers. I forced myself to just do it, though, and I really like how it turned out, and I think I'm ready to try tackling the pattern idea again.

The next palette is another similar almost full rainbow of colors, just more saturated, so that's a little intimidating. But you know what? It's our first palette that includes a black!
