That is really neat! I've never thought about displaying my art in pieces like this, but it really gives a much better feel for how the art was constructed, as well as some of the work behind it. Yours definitely shows how it was constructed, but shows less on how much time and work you put into it.

It looks great though! Did your friend like the art? (I would imagine so - not many have very nice artistic skills)

I must say, at the size it's at now, it resembles the drawn FF chars you see that are published by Square. It makes the work you've done look like it's meant for the game. ^_^
