summoner
summoner by @phantom_mint (Ana Leistner)

Scanned and printed out mechanical pencil on sketchbook paper, Crayola and Prismacolor colored pencils.

A while back, I obtained a copy of Final Fantasy Chronicles. While playing through FF4, my liking for a certain little green-haired summoner was renewed, and I couldn't help but do this small bit of fanart involving her.

Her pose is rather awkward, though. I need to work on that.

Ah, good old Rydia. One of the few characters I really enjoyed from FF4. Lovely drawing here, I like your style and the shading is very nice. The hair is particularly well drawn and shaded, giving it nice shape, and I like all the details you put into her outfit. The fire on her fingertip is a nice touch, too. The pose in general isn't that awkward to me, but her head is turned around way too much to possibly be comfortable, though you drew it as if it was perfectly natural. From this angle, about the best she could do is a profile view, and you'd have to have additional lines in her neck to show that it's twisted as much as it is. But it's drawn nicely as is. I like the different colored lines you used in this picture, it gives it a nice soft look. Good job.

Thank you! ^^

Yeah, any side or back positions are something I have trouble with, because I don't do them as often. And the positioning of the head really gives me problems. It's good for me to receive critiques like this so I know what to do on future art pieces. Thanks again!

Jinx gave you excellent advice on the pose, so I won't even try to outdo her. :) I really love the coloring in this piece--I just love seeing colored pencils used like this, with the soft shading that is still so vibrant. Rydia is a cute character, and you've drawn her very well, in my humble opinion. I am most impressed with your highlighting/shine--way to go! I really need to learn how to shade like this! Everything I do turns out cel-shaded, and sometimes something gentle like this is all you need for a great piece--like this one is!

Thank you very much!

I've tried more cel-shaded coloring myself, and it's fun, but I tend to return back to the softer shading as I just really like the look of it with my pieces.
