POed with Lord of the Rings Slash
POed with Lord of the Rings Slash by @dark_persian (Donna)

pounds chest Roaaa! Dark Persian mad!! This is me totally cheesed off with the disturbing amount of Lord of the Rings slash artwork that has been 'appearing' lately. I'm not anti slash but I am very much anti LotR slash. I can not begin to express how wrong (on so many levels) it is! What started out as a little fan-girl fun has gotten way out of hand. Some people treating their fan made couples as if J R R Tolkien had created them himself!

I don't think I've ever used my artwork as a means of venting my frustrations before...it's actually quite therapeutic. takes a breath Ok, calm down Donna girl! (and yes, I am aware of the ironic sound effect.)

I totally agree with you on that! as much as I understand some people think it's okay to put so-and-so together in their own little couple, they never consider just how anti-slash fans will take it, it's like those out of character yaoi pairings you get a lot of the time @.@ , so don't worry I fully agree with you on this.

Well we all have our own tastes and opinions I suppose. But I have to tell you that it's out there and it probably won't go away. I'm sorry you have to feel so frustratedly strongly about it but the only thing I can suggest is what other slashers and other supporters have told other anti slasers of any particular fandom: "Don't like? Don't look."

Simple as that. I know it seems overwhelming at times but it's just one part of the fandom. For every slash site out there, I'm sure there's a corresponding anti-slash or even just a more socially acceptable site out there.

You're a great artist and the sketch shows a lot of expression and movement and I personally like the drawing.

All I can say is if you don't like it, don't look at it, don't read it.

For all the other slash-bashers out there I give you the same advice. 'Cause probably how sick Donna is with all the slash popping up, I'm just THAT sick with all the bashing I see. Especially here. It's just about acceptance. I think everyone needs to accept the fact that you're either a supporter (in one way or another) or not, and just move on.

I don't want to turn this area of comments into a message boared; so I'll leave with this:

The drawing is very well done and expresses your feelings greatly. Good work! ^.~

Hey, I totally respect all that you said. It’s good to get responsive comments on my gallery. I also agree with a lot of what you have said – the ‘own opinions’ parts anyway. But, I have to say that the quote "Don't like? Don't look." that you used really doesn’t work for me. Besides the fact that slash is now to rampant to be ignored, If you truly believe in that then why are you posting here? I’m not having a go at you! But if we apply that quote to this situation, then if you dislike anti-slash (which you admittedly do) shouldn’t you yourself be ignoring me and any other anti LotR slasher instead of making your point? You can see why I dislike that saying. It only creates a conundrum with the whole ‘free speech’ thing. It’s human nature to want to put your point of view across. This is not a case of ‘minding our own business’, it is a case of ‘seeing a cause to fight for and fighting for it.’ I’ve always been a girl with a strong sense of justice and I am defiantly not one who will shy from a cause just because there seem to be more people against what I am saying. After all, some of my most influential role models are those who faced adversity and scorn while they were campaigning.

You have fair reason to dislike the attention seeking “Dat sucks!” kind of basher. They show no consideration for the other side of the argument whatsoever (and usually can’t form an intelligent sentence to save their life!). After all “Those who insult and slight do so from low places.” But if you have a good point to make and you make it purely with the intention of fighting for what you believe in and not unnecessarily offending people, then I think it is a great thing to do! If you have a sincere point to make, why not make it? If slash fans are so adamant about presenting their works (like you said, it is probably not going to go away), I think it’s fair that I can display mine too.

Anyway, these are just a few of my thoughts, if you would like to hear the full reason why I dislike Lord of the Rings slash then I’d be happy to e-mail you the URL to an article I am writing on the subject once it’s finished (I’ll post the URL here too).

Thankyou for your compliments on my artwork though. Much appreciated ^_^

I hear your cry of pain! Slash has got WAAAY out of hand! On fanfiction.net, almost ALL I see on the LotR section is "WARNING! SLASH!" or "SLASH ALERT!" it just pisses me right off! I'm thinking of asking ff.net to add a category for slash, so that we slash haters don't have to look at the weird summaries that some of these sick, twisted people come up with! The world will be a better place (well, the Internet anyway!). Its a great pic! Very DBZ-like if I may say so! I am SOOOO upset that there are no more DBZ sagas! In GT the voices are different, and the storyline gets a bit boring after a while. Its not like Dragonball, when everything was hilarious, or like DBZ, where the emotions were so well caught that you actually cried at some points, and made you almost believe that those people were real............... OK, I'm now going off on a large camel, so I think I'll get back to the picture! ITS GREAT!!! I'm now inspired, so after I've drooled over "Fair Elven Prince" (mmmmmmm.........Legolas............ drool) I'm going to go draw!!! Namarié! From Elróthiel, the Elven Goddess of Hilariosity and Laughter!

I personally think Tolkien that if Tolkien were alive now the poor old guy would have a heart attack if he saw all the slash going around. For all we know he could be rolling around in his grave right now.
