Homo sapiens marinus
Homo sapiens marinus by @katedagg (Kate Dagger)

Model-sheet for my own personal design of a mermaid. Rather than the stereotypical "fish-people", mermaids in my stories are simply aquatic humans, specifically a subspecies of humans who went back to the ocean because of mutations several hundred thousand years ago. Their lower bodies are seal-like rather than fish-like, they have webbed hands, nostrils that can open and close, and their ears are speically adapted to pick up the primitive sonar they use to communicate. This one is a female Homo sapiens marinus; her name is Aynae, and she'll appear in a story I'm working on.

This is one cool concept for an aquatic being! The Seal-esque properties of her tail and face are evident. The membrane between her arms and chest is way cool, and so are her webbed fingers. Though, it would be nice to have the webbing extend to her thumbs, too. I'd like to see much more of her!!
