Snowhawk :: Phase 3
Snowhawk :: Phase 3 by @snowhawk (Snowhawk)

I figure I need a better picture of Phase 3 Snowhawk here.

Drawn, inked, and colored in a hardback sketchbook (mech. pencil, micron pen, and Prisma pencils respectivley). Scanned into Photoshop, then given a super-saturated background. Background was taken by me on my last walk to Laurel Falls with a digital camera.

First of all I'd like to say this is a very beautiful image. I love the grace of the horse/unicorn, she shows off quite a bit of elegance. I also like how you put some meat on her, and she's not a narrow thin twig. ;) The saturation of the background was a excellent idea, it helps with the stunning effect. However, the background has quite a bit of noise in it, which is the piece's main flaw. One would suggest saving the picture as a .png, because it leaves far less noise. Also, some artistic critique (I hope I'm not annoying you with any of this because I give EVERYBODY critique and such, cuz it helps yanno) is putting a bit more detail in her hair (or would you call it a mane?). I would try using a darker pencil for the hair strands, or you could do each strand individually. All in all, I think this is a beautiful piece of work. I absolutely LOVE the character.

I love how she seems to be searching, wandering in the woods as though she's contemplating things in her life--and perhaps things greater than her life. She looks so sad, and her step is a little hesitant--I hope she finds what she is looking for soon.

Beautiful coloring job--It's all blended very well together, and I like how you made the background look so surreal, with such lovely bright colors that compliment her outfit. The outfit itself is very well designed--I particularly enjoy the ribbons around her legs--very nice.

It's interesting to see a unicorn walking upright--I think this is only the first or second I've seen. It makes a really great design, and overall this is quite a beautiful image.

Congrats on being Artist of the Day!
