"Language should be used as a tool of peace. We learn our first language to make peace with our parents. We learn other languages to make peace with our neighbors."
~Arktukui Dhiar Kasma Ajara, 2nd headmaster of the Ekim International School of Communication

During the Great Jarvian War, there arose a saying among both the Yutsha and the Ca'eacedt. "Don't f*** with Ekim. They love their neutrality." Functioning as neutral territory between warring parties for centuries, Ekim had always placed its focus on two things: military defense and communication. Inevitably, many nations of Jarvahn go to Ekim to help negotiate cessation of hostilities when both sides are tired of fighting. And Ekim has always obliged. Thus the above plaque, which, in some fashion or another, appears somewhere on the exterior on every Ekimian embassy, both on Jarvahn and off-world. It has long been used to represent both Ekim's and the ISC's dedication to peace through language itself. Negotiators from all sides in a conflict are taught the native Ekimian language Batum in order to level the field between them, bringing negotiations in compliance with Batum's common language rather than allowing both sides to manipulate their own languages to the disadvantage of the other. While it isn't much of a deterrent to war on Jarvahn, it forces both sides to choose their language and abide by it or else collapse negotiations and start things over. And Jarvians tend to avoid starting wars all over again just to be dragged back to Ekim.
