Imago Faril
Imago Faril by @lynne (Lynne)

For this one, I tried a couple new coloring techniques! >D I want feedback on this; tell me if it's better or worse than my usual, or what... what I did was go without dodge and burn and instead used multiple shading layers (in different COLORS!) and a highlighting layer... I used a little burn for color accent on the wings but that's all. u.u;

Also, I colored it at about 3x the size it is now and then just made it smaller afterwards :D Which smoothed everything out nicely. I recommend that technique.

One more note for this piece.... monarch wing patterns are DARNED FUN TO DRAW! 8D At first they were backbreaking and confusing, but then the pattern fell into place in my head and it became easy and much fun.

Really cool wingstyle!

Hmmm...the dodge-burn isn't really recommendable, IMHO; better to use the color palette to pick out more appropriate highlight and shadow colors. But it does work pretty nicely on the wings, gives them an interesting texture.

(I'd ditch it on the eyes, though, it's cheesy, to me.)

Actually now that I've done a pic almost entirely WITHOUT using dodge or burn (except burn on the wings here) I have to agree XD I like this way better!

You've made me want to start using my art program again! NOt that I didn't want to use it, it's just that I haven't had time to figure out how to switch images from one computer to the other... You've made me want to figure it out sooner. Okay. I think a paragraph's enough. I'll shut up now. ^^ Again, you've insired me.
