Thanks for commenting on my image... I was going for the peaceful/quiet/still kind of feel with this one... hence the cool blue and soft shades...
In answer to you question: I ususally work from scratch, using a pencil doodle and then blocking out areas of colour (usually in black) I sometimes use photos of people as a reference source material, I always like to use photos that I have taken myself (otherwise you simply can't control the structure of the peice) Any picture I used a photo on I probably have about 20-40 photos of that person, in various poses until I'm happy with it... (I'm a bit trigger happy with the digital camera *Grins)
occasionally I just start doodling in ink and don't bother with any prep at all... these ones you can probably tell because the detail is low and the proportions not 100% right because you can't edit with ink...

I'm curious- are your drawings done completely from scratch or modification of photographs?
This is really nice.. I love the light and dark here. I don't know if you intended it that way, but it creates a peaceful effect, IMHO.
