... and this was the end of it, with a much cleaner triangle than their predecessor. Later idents would also have an 888 tag at the bottom, reminding viewers of the closed caption available.

This look would proved to be even more short-lived than the original - as Carlton won the 1990 franchise round after a tight case with the Thames Television consortium (who promised ultra-local news output, akin to CityPulse in Canada), the generic look was hurled out of the window with a new local ident, based on the stripes, taking on the banter until 1993.
