Oh wow! Excelent shading, he almost looks realistic. It's always good to practice, great job! ^_~

I love the painted look to this and the purplish tone to the shadows. I can completely sympathize with being dissatisfied with one's own shading. I love the lighting here, you don't often see the light source coming directly from the side, and you rendered it very well. I hope this helps you feel better about your work.
