Stormcrow and Past have found someone who can help them: Marvin the Gunslinger.
Marvin doesn't remember what reality he comes from. He was trapped in the City of Dreams as a small child, and had to learn to fight to survive. In the twelve years since then, he has learned what is causing the "fluxes": an evil stranger seeking to gain control of the macroverse. Marvin makes a deal: if the two mages will help him defeat his enemy, he will do everything in his power to help them escape.
Here, Marvin keeps a lookout, Stormcrow regards Marvin, and the Pastmaster wonders why he had to get stuck with two teenagers.
