Old Zylon Concept
Old Zylon Concept by @Agondray

This is an old concept sketch of a species I made up for my old dark fantasy series.

I have named them the Zylons. They were a race of creatures that were from an alternate plane of existence, of which denizens of the ‘normal’ world referred to as the “Shadow World”. The Zylons would have typically been wielding double-sided spears, but higher ranking members would have also employed magic to aid them in battle. They were meant to be a very violent race, with their rank names clarifying the level of barbarity.

Ranks from weakest to strongest: Skinripper, Flesheater, Bonehunter, Bloodseeker, Darkhider, and Shadowmaster.

Their biology was a bit weird. They start life as smaller, worm-like creatures that only desire to feed and grow. Once they reached maturity, they start developing a form of exoskeleton which would act as their ‘adult’ forms. The original larval worm is located in the head and back shell, where it transforms and operates as the creature’s nervous system.

. . .

A few years after I graduated from high school, I decided to do a complete overhaul remaking of my fantasy universe. One of the casualties of this reimagining is, of course, the Zylons. I’ve have decided to scrap them for two main reasons. One reason is that I heavily based the designs off the Rahkshi from the Bionicle franchise, and I didn’t want to get into any legal trouble if I ever decided to publish my stories. The other reason is that I wanted to use creatures from actual folklore and mythology, as well as my personal reimaginings for classic Dungeons and Dragons and Pathfinder creatures. I wanted to incorporate them into the lore in a way that makes sense from a logical and somewhat realistic standpoint, instead of them ‘just existing’ in the universe.

So yeah, the Zylons in their current form will most likely never see the light of day again. Although, I may use the name and perhaps certain aspects of them for a different project. But that is still up in the air as of now and not set in stone.
