I still don't know how I will call this dude, but he should appear in the second book where he witness Erget putting herself on fire. 

As for what he is... Some say he is a shadow that managed to materialize itself into physical form, some say it is the embodyment of fear itself.

So there's a criminally obscure sci-fi comic called EndTown that I followed up until the computer crash in 2021 and for some reason still haven't caught up with yet. One chapter sees Wally's crew dimension-hopping to a lighthouse filled with shadow people made out of toothbrushes. This immediately reminded me of that sequence.
