kau by @beatcrab (beatnik crab)

groan i've been compulsively drawing neopets lately. i cranked this one out in marketing class in college. anyways, this is my kau. except my kau isn't really a cloud kau. she's just a red kau 'cause i can't afford a paintbrush. but i figured i'd make her a cloud kau for the purpose of entering her in the beauty contest, because i'm learning to cater to the cutsey crap that gets votes. except that it doesn't really even get votes. what gets votes is spamming the NeoPets chat boards. god, this is annoying. -_- 2002

Oh wow this pic is adorable! It's hard to find pics of kau's. You did a great job on this pic. I love it. Not many artist's are drawing neopets anymore though including myself due to the neopet's copyright rules (ankharis.addr.com/jots/u/law.html)

thanks for commenting! i love comments! and on the subject of commenting, i'm in a very very argumentative mood right now, so i feel the need to comment on Neopets's copyright statement.

Neopets does indeed essentially say that NOBODY is EVER allowed to illustrate ANY Neopet's likeness or ANYTHING pertaining to Neopets.

i fully realize that my comments here are more than likely unfounded and wouldn't hold up in, oh say maybe court, but nonetheless, i'm bloody well going to say something anyways.

isn't it reasonable to think that Neopets has a standard copyright on their characters? this would be the same copyright that applies to any tv show, movie, book, comic strip, etc. isn't there plenty of fanart out there for tv shows, movies, books, comic strips, etc.? wouldn't that mean that all of that fanart is likewise violating copyright laws? perhaps it is and i just need to do my research before i go and open my mouth, but it's something to think about.

if, in fact, Neopets is exaggerating their "copyright rights" then isn't it very arrogant of them to encourage people to create artwork to be displayed on their website, but insist that it not be showcased elsewhere? and on a more logical non-legal note, how is it fair that Neopets claims for themselves full and unrestricted rights to use ANY user-submitted image however they see fit, yet refuse ANYONE the use of their characters' likenesses? that's not a give/take relationship. that's a take/take relationship.

...

and now i've lost my train of thought. bugger. well anyways, i just thought there were some holes in Neopets' claims, and i had some responsive comments to get out of my head, whether or not they were unfounded. the upshot of it is that i give credit to Neopets anywhere and everywhere that my Neopets-related artwork is displayed, and i'm bloody well not going to stop drawing Neopets characters until i get a direct cease-and-desist order from Neopets or their lawyers (i will, however, all too willingly stop short of a lawsuit).

this unfounded rant was brought to you by: beatnik crab. and the letter Z.

I'm sorry about the whole loaded voting thing, your kau has got to be one of the cutest things ever. I voted for you, and so did my best friend and my sister. So anyway, yeah, you probably won't win, cause the contest is rigged, but you should. ;_;

Amazing pic, could you tell me though how you outlined your kau? Did you do it by hand using a special marker, or did you do it in a paint program like Photoshop? Just a question from a fellow artsit :)
