Dream Chichiri by @TheDevilCat (Caitlin Wilt)

At around, oh, midnight last night, I sat down to draw. I didn’t know what I wanted to draw, simply that I wanted do draw, and when the art bug bites me, I must scratch. But what to draw? I’d had plenty of art ideas buzzing around in my head, but none of them appealed. I considered completing my long-overdue half of an art trade, but the character I was to draw didn’t feel like obeying me at the time. So I just put my pencil to the paper…

…and drew this, of all things. This is Chichiri, of Fushigi Yuugi fame, as he appeared in a dream I had so long ago I’d almost forgotten it until Chichiri started to appear on the paper. And for a picture that popped out of nowhere, I’m terribly in love with it. It’s the first time I’ve drawn an anime character in my newish non-anime style, and had them turn out looking okay. And plus, I did a nighttime scene. Look at that sky! Look how I blue-tinted everything just enough to give it that nightly feel without making the original colours indistinguishable! Look at his scar! I spent more time on that scar than the entire rest of his face, believe it or not. And look at the shakujo! It actually looks like gold! And I didn’t maul it too badly! That’s a hard design to duplicate, even with half a dozen reference pictures. The sparkles might be a bit too much, but I still love this image.

Plus, it’s Chichiri-san. ::glomp::

And yes, I still remember what the dream was about but it was so weird and inevitably Mary Sue-ish that I won’t bother relating it or explaining why Chichiri looked like that (which actually had nothing to do with the dream itself, and was just a matter of my brain scrambling up a few things).

Oh, and I kinda apologise for the large file size. I just couldn’t bring myself to compress this one. The jaggies just looked so… bad! I hate the jaggies. Compression is evil. Chichiri is nice. Very nice. Ahh, Chichiri-san…
