Autumn Gal
Autumn Gal by @boredslacker (Aki Tan)

First Spring, then Summer, and now Autumn... I'm a bit worried about whether the orange kimono clashes with the rest of the image, but in a way it works to stand her out from the rest of the background. The chinese character on her fan reads "Autumn" btw.

I liked this image so much I even did a wallpaper on it. heh heh.

Aki-Onna herself [Autumn-Lady in Japanese] was done in pen and ink, then scanned into PS where the colours and the rest of the elements were added.

I love the transparency and the shift from white to darker violet. What made choose the violent violet and tangerine combo? Hints out the outline just right. Maybe try aging here into the future in other works? Would be and interesting study. Ivan

What made choose the violent violet and tangerine combo?

  • Man, a simple question, but hard to think of an answer.... hehehe...... For the woman, tangerine because of the blazing yellow and orange tones of Autumn leaves. For the background, a more gentle violet, because of the Japanese theme, and the sakuras falling from the trees.

Maybe try aging here into the future in other works?

Er... don quite get what you mean... sorry.... (^^!) Will be putting up other works in future, if I ever get them done.... hehe...

Meant; have you thought of doing a series of portraits of the same character at different ages.?

Hm, I didn't think of that... THough I did think of doing a series of portraits of different ladies, each representing a different season. I guess to me, Autumn will always look like that, a kind of timeless, ageless quality...

Fall is my favorite season. I have to say that, first and foremost... Although, this piece is more reminiscent of spring. That's normally when Sakura blossoms fall, isn't it? During March? I could be wrong, though, don't quote me on that. I love the vibrant orange of her kimono, and the obi contrasts it very well. The kanji on the fan is very well-drawn, and I love that the fan is transparent. Her expression also makes me think of autumn because it's so dark and mysterious. I think the color scheme is just fine--Purple and orange are opposite colors, and if you put them together they really, really stand out--but I think it's perfect to bring across this lady's intensity. Great job!
