Cape Reinga Lighthouse
Cape Reinga Lighthouse by @Thorvald (El Thorvaldo)

In 1926, TW Ratana made a pilgrimage to Cape Reinga and prophesied that a great light would shine out to the world one day. Fast forward to May 1941 and a lighthouse was built to replace the station at Motuopao Island. It was the last manned lighthouse built in the country and was switched over to automatic operation in 1987; not seen from this angle are the solar panels that power the bulb. Thanks to the magic of computers, it is now controlled from an office in Wellington at literally the opposite end of North Island.
