TCE Officer Rank Insignia by @fragmented_imagination (B Sanders)
Officer rank pins for Tremor Command of Ekim. Ekim has long done away with the idea of commissioning officers in its armed forces with the exception of the higher ranks starting at Major General (O-8) through which commissions are granted by the executive body of the Ekimian government. Instead, most officers become such through education, either from an approved civilian college or university or from the officer military academy appropriate to their chosen service.
This sheet illustrates the changes made to officer ranks to help make them indistinguishable from enlisted ranks. O-2, O-4, and O-6 are cobalt-blue copies of O-1, O-3, and O-5 ranks which, on the field, helped hide commanding officers among their staff. With the introduction of the background disk, these ranks changed to navy blue for their low-visibility rank pins, although this realistically placed these officers in more jeopardy since it made the diamonds stick out better on a uniform. O-8 through O-11 strove to imitate the lesser ranks in their original inception. With the introduction of the low-visibility pins, these general ranks changed to higher visibility standard wear mostly out of respect for the government-approved position.
O-12 is actually less of a rank and more of a government position. Only one General of Tremor Command can be in-service at a time, and that rank only goes to a High General that has been selected to serve on the Defense Staff, the body of generals which reports directly to the Chief National Executive of Ekim, who serves as the military commander-in-chief. The rank is represented by a replica of the seal of Tremor Command.
Neither O-0 nor O-12 have low-visibility field wear pins since these are not acceptable ranks to be found in an active battlefield. Technically, O-11 are not supposed to be field positions, either; it is often joked that newly-promoted High Generals only receive the low visibility rank pin out of politeness.
The ranks are named as follows:
- O-0: Charas "Cadet" Rank given to officers currently attending the military academy.
- O-1: Edhen "Second Lieutenant" Rank automatically conferred to a fully-trained officer either from the academy or another higher education facility.
- O-2: Sāwa "First Lieutenant"
- O-3: Tevwen "Captain"
- O-4: 'Uradī "Major"
- O-5: Kangte "Lieutenant Colonel"
- O-6: Aidhevín "Colonel"
- O-7: Madarūk "Brigadier General" Technically still considered an officer without a commission; the translation is mainly just a convention.
- O-8: Misaffedh "Major General" First commissioned rank.
- O-9: Sha'ebh "Lieutenant General"
- O-10: Te'e "General"
- O-11: Te'e Ābhiam "High General"
- O-12: Te'e SíGarāx Yazhbhaif "General of Tremor Command"
