Hi everyone, I'm Anonicus. I first heard about this site just today from a friend that told me that this is a new Art site.
After looking around and even reading through the rules, Needless to say I'm quite satisfied for what this site has to offer. I don't think I will be putting up all my old art, Especially since I noticed there's a limit to how much I can upload (Though tbf, All my art is about 100 MB and would take a while to fill up...). I am a Webmaster of my own website and quick search can easily find it (Seriously it's just my name but with a .net) if you're curious to what I make. I do have an interest to uploading to this website however as another source of Community and a place to archive my works. I'm also interested into putting my characters references and all that here as well since there's a place for that.
Though I do have a question... I noticed that the Copyright is from 1993, Is there a history with Side7 I could look into?
Anyways, It's nice to be here. I will try to be around as much as I can.
Welcome aboard! There are suggestions a third storage tier is in the pipeline, so unless your old stuff is terminally cringe you shouldn't need to hold back, especially if you're travelling light to begin with. If you do want to economize, S7 supports .webp, which can be more efficient than both .png and .jpg—I typically shave off a third to one half the original filesize.
@BadKarma is the founder and siterunner so queries on operational history can be directed to him; as far as I know there's no consolidated timeline, but the gist is Side 7 originated as an anime bulletin board in '93; it reorganized as an "art archive" in '98, and became an open-registration gallery circa 2000, months before DeviantArt was founded. It's gone through many updates and redesigns since then, with a significant feature revamp just last year coinciding with a membership surge that put it back on the map.
