I can't say this was my own idea; it was based on something I'd heard elsewhere. Ironically, about a month after this first aired the Canadian Parliament submitted a vote of no confidence over the government's proposed budget, and the opposition parties began talk of forming a politically dubious but constitutionally legal coalition government that would have ousted the Conservatives. Harper interpreted it as sufficient a threat to prorogue the House in what would become a recurring pattern of shutting down the government to avoid challenges to his authority.

Remember kids, dictatorship can happen at home.
