Funny that a Naruto-inspired MMORPG feels more faithful to the universe than Boruto does. I play as a Sand ninja (are you surprised?) and there is a statue dedicated to Gaara, suggesting that it IS the Naruto universe but long into the future after all canon characters are long gone. I know that it's supposedly an original universe for copyright reasons, but I am choosing to believe that it is just the Naruto world in the future. 

I'm still pretty new at the game but I've been playing it more lately. I really enjoy the fact that the little pixelated ninjas actually look like ninjas and not whatever Ikemoto has going on with his character designs...
