Marco Lino's Portuguese Angola
Marco Lino's Portuguese Angola by @Thorvald (El Thorvaldo)

SVG recreation of a proposed flag for the Portuguese Republic of Angola, included in Marcolino Cardoso's A Confederação Portuguesa, published 1974; submitted as a GIF to Flags of the World by António Martins in 1999.

This was used for my own Portuguese Republic of Angola in MoshIOT 2. The game moderator was iconic for playing Angola in multiple threads, and I was inspired to take a stab at it following a conversation in what was then the Chatango server. Initially confined to Angola proper, prior to game's start I was awarded everything down to the Cape of Good Hope in a consolidation of unclaimed land. The resulting backstory was an armed reconquest of the territories forfeited in the 1890 Ultimatum and an invasion of South Africa aided by the rogue governor of German Southwest Africa following the collapse of the British home government amid renewed insurrection by Boer settlers. Shortly after South Africa surrendered, however, Lisbon also fell to anarchy and the colonies were cut adrift; seeking to relieve his exhausted garrison, the German governor Theodor Leutwin partnered with his Portuguese counterpart António Duarte Ramada Curto in a joint leadership, and the three territories were consolidated as the "Commonwealth of South-West Africa". Sadly, the game never advanced beyond initial signups, and the premise was not developed further.
