One Tree Hill
One Tree Hill by @Thorvald (El Thorvaldo)

One Tree Hill is a volcanic peak in Auckland, New Zealand, located in the middle of the city. An important memorial place for Maori and other New Zealanders, it was the most important pre-European (fortified settlement). The eponymous One Tree was cut down by a White settler in 1852, and despite attempts by Sir John Logan Campbell no native tree regrew in its place.

The summit provides a central panorama of the city and a view to both its harbours. In addition to the government-administered One Tree Hill Domain, there is an adjacent, private Cornwall Park originally established by Campbell, some of which is used as pasture for sheep and cattle.
