My 33rd submission to DYOS X. [link]

The Cold War Crisis mod for C&C Generals is one of the most astounding total conversions I have ever come across. In addition to outstanding graphical detail and a killer A.I., the gameplay mechanics are realistic to a sometimes frustrating degree; it is an RTS version of Operation Flashpoint (the team was inspired by and features a number of homages to it)... meaning you have to micro-manage every individual soldier if you want to save him from inglorious suicide. =P

Bjørn turned out quite well in this comic, certainly compared to the mean, although I failed his face the second time.

Whoa! My dad would've loved this mod!

@fragmented_imagination: My only regret is that they scrapped a planned NATO (European) faction early on; it came razor-close to being the RTS cousin of World in Conflict.

I still admire it for its ambition, but I'm not sure I'd call it one of my favourite mods in respect to the base game. CWC plays far more like a Eugen title or Broken Arrow than the 'old-school' RTS it's built on, and the Generals UI really isn't suited to the micromanagement needed to use special abilities effectively. Compare WiC, where the hotkey for launching a TOW missile will cycle through each Bradley individually, with Generals, where that same hotkey will fire every rocket from every selected unit simultaneously. In that sense it's a bit like Red Alert 3 but one slipped finger could literally cost you the firefight.

For someone that thinks slow and tactically and goes to insane lengths to avoid friendly losses, it's a trying experience. :P
