Down for the Count
29 Jul 2023, 03:56 PM

Like a boxer on the canvas music wise I am down for the count.

re installing windows and all programs pc was acting up something fierce and now I know why 2 of my memory chips died I went from 36gig to 12 gig of memory which is not enough to run everything I do so there will not be any music for at least a week or so

BUT there is GOOD news, I HAVE another brand new PC I am building which hopefully by end of the month I will be getting a large 2tb SSD hard drive for as the one in this one is defunct. The next PC is an i7 7th generation with over 32gigs of ram. Doesn't sound like much but its a good start for doing what I do music wise. *I plan on getting more memory and a decent graphics card and a microphone module to hook up to do my voice acting and lyrics for songs with. *This will of course take time and I still plan on using my aged PC a bit more during that time so I also have to buy some DDR3 ram chips to increase the ram so I can continue to compose music on this thing.

*Thank you all for your patience I am making the repairs and transitioning as fast as I can. *

Best of luck! Computer problems are always a bummer. I hope you get your machines up and running well soon!

@BadKarma: Thinking of a brand spanking new PC build actually I just got in touch with a computer store in the next City over from me and they had some pretty impressive and finely priced PC builds just waiting to be snatched up. I am always 7 to 10 years behind the technology curve when it comes to PCs so...its time to upgrade to something more modern, sleek and a beast of a machine so I can do the following

-Build my game in unity engine * -3D models and rendering -Music composition -Voice acting and sound design -VR -Graphics design *

Its been long enough time I think cause I am not a PC guy and don't do hardware only software...yeah time to get with the times a bit.

@XxTheCreativeKitsunexX: As someone whose potato rigs could break games in ways nobody could ever replicate, you have my utmost sympathy. I've "side-graded" but never objectively downgraded hardware, so I can't even imagine the impact on someone doing high-intensity processing. I only got my first solid state two years back but wow does it make a difference on performance; sadly this crypto garbage has inflated GPUs into the ionosphere so the market has largely flatlined from what the same price would net you in upgrades a decade ago..

@Thorvald: I was talking to a tech head at a computer store in the next city over and said I could get a 3060 for 380CAD so prices are down again and graphic card sales help a lot, they have a month wide sale going on on select graphics cards. I got tired of hard drives with moving parts always breaking down and me always losing my work and or programs *some of which have been long discontinued but still sound amazing even by today's industry standards So I decided to go with an SSD as my old rig HAS an SSD in it but its only 120 gig most of which windows 10 has taken all the memory from. Suffice to say I thought it was high time to get with the program cause as a VR lover and a guy who uses his PC as a main workstation, I am SORELY missing out. The Techhead also let me know the Cryto currency market crashed big time so now its easier to get graphics cards and computer parts at a more affordable price point.

Dang, angryflower.com doesn't have an archive of the news posts. Notley wrote up a beautiful skewer of the Endless Windows Updates a month or two ago and I forgot to transcribe it for safekeeping.

Once MassiveSoft goes full subscription-service I'm switching to Linux.

@Thorvald: Once again you have succeeded in thoroughly confusing me.

@XxTheCreativeKitsunexX: Mission accomplished. B^)

A cartoonist I follow wrote a passive-aggressive rant about his computer troubles along the lines of: "Oh, poor naïve fool that thought he was getting Windows for his own work! No, you get Windows in order for WIndows to acquire Windows Updates, and any moment not spent acquiring Windows Updates or installing Windows Updates is a gross misuse of ~~your~~ Windows' computer!"

I finally figured out what he meant when I left the desktop running unattended two times and came back to find it had rebooted to Install Windows Updates™ and I lost all my work. >:C
