Maybe a trojan from Toyhou.se?
12 May 2024, 10:16 PM

I have recently joined Toyhou.se just to use as a repository for my future ocs. While casually browsing the site Windows Defender had caught a trojan just as I was looking through someone's profile and characters. The moment I noticed it I quarantined and removed the threat, but immediately saw that it had come from my browser. Now, normally it could all be a coincidence, but as far as I know, Toyhou.se allows for a lot of profile customization, and the profile(s) I was currently looking at were heavily edited. I don't think I clicked on any links. At any rate, I am thinking of retiring my toyhou.se account for now unless I can disable custom coding people do on their profiles. I am sure most people have an alright time with the website, but I would still say to be careful while using it.

UPDATE 6/6

Okay, this is long overdue, but I did get contact from the sites admin(s)? and they said they couldn't find anything malicious. I will still probably not click on any links I cannot verify though that link offsite.

Toyhou.se is still in beta and adjusting their rules, so, if there are vulnerabilities from allowing unrestricted custom themes, that's something that they should be made aware of. Have you mentioned this in Help & Questions, or Suggestions & Bugs, or used the Help Desk?

@Cynicallia: No, but I think I'll send a support ticket directly. Did not see the link for it. Thank you.

Toyhou.se is fast becoming one of those sites where almost every time I hear about it, it's because of a grievance. Unfortunately I am not surprised a site with such slipshod administration has left its UI open to exploitation. HAV - Tom Longboat 2

@Thorvald:

Yikes..to say I am not suprised though is an understatement. I'm sure its really hard and costly to run a website but I heard there was one person at the helm and no one being hired to moderate. And with every single terrible decision Deviantart continues to make, it means Toyhou.se is only going to continue to grow. I did get a pretty quick response, despite not updating until now, but a lot might happen on the website that can go unnoticed. I'm glad there is competition, and even if I hope and pray Deviantart gets better, I really hope to see all websites become positive places we can all chose to find and be in. I am glad to have found Side7...it does give me old DA vibes.

@lua0: Aye, I volunteered for modship here in April last year (right before membership really took off) after realizing BK was literally running the whole show himself. :O
