Inktober 2023: Day 2 - Spiders
Inktober 2023: Day 2 - Spiders by @Agondray

My submission for the second day of Inktober 2023! That day’s theme was “Spiders”.

I’ve also missed the deadline for this one, and I kinda struggled with what to draw for the picture itself. I really suffered art block with this one. First I thought a bunch spiders in a cave, which I had some issues drawing. I also thought about doing a taxonomy style drawing, but I also had problems with that; as I kept taking too much space for the spiders and their legs and it was getting a bit frustrating. So then I finally settled on this concept.

I wanted the spiders to have a unique appearance to them, so I gave each of them a different marking pattern. I based those patterns off of the ones the spiders had in a MineCraft clone. I thought those patterns looked cool, so I borrowed for this sketch. I was also experimenting with hand design, trying to go with a more “realistic” look.

This sketch didn’t take me quite as long as the previous one, but I did enjoy working on it once I figured out what I wanted to do. It’s a bit more simplistic, but I think it works in this case.

What do you think?

Definitely a spider fan, here. I used to keep tarantulas, and I'm always rescuing spiders before weirdos have a chance to kill them. The red one is my favorite, its pattern makes me think of Strongbad, and I'm hearing all kinds of weird quotes in my head.. "Teen Girl Squaaaad!" .. "The S is for Sucks" .. "His name is Lit'l Brudder"..

@Cynicallia: Woah, really! Tarantulas are pretty cool, but I myself never even considered keeping one as a pet.

I sometimes try to save spiders, especially when they are indoors where someone might freak out and/or try to kill it. Whenever I have one crawling on my hand, I sometimes let them spin a thread going down so they can just calmly go on their way.

I actually didn’t realize until I made this picture that the red one had a pattern that looked like a face. I feel like I’ve seen that character somewhere before, but I didn’t know who he was or what franchise he was from at the time. LOL, those quotes! XD
