Someone established a base on a planetoid orbiting a pulsar, the remnant of a star that died in a supernova. Why did they establish a presence in such a harsh, irradiated place?

This is excellently composed. The details in the base and planetoid are fun to look at. And your rendering of the pulsar is fantastic!

I agree with BK. The composition being mostly space feels like it emphasizes the mystery in your description. The shading on the planetoid and the base is well-done (I love the day-side/night-side approach), and the pulsar makes you feel the distance. I certainly wanna know who left that there.

The lighting in this perfectly evokes that matte-style of illustration that dominated space opera up into the Eighties.
